Recent work: Momentarily, my focus is mainly on salt firing work from the gas oven. A direct way of working, in which I combine wheel-throwing and hand-sculpting techniques. Spontaneous decorations made with a brush, or in texture, contribute to the special “salt skin” after firing. The uncertainty of the result and the experiment that’s part of the firing process, fascinate me.

Inspiration: There is so much beauty to be discovered in the world around us; a tire track in the wet sand, a noise barrier alongside the motorway, as well as capsule flowers, coral, and microorganisms. Rhythm and repetitions of lines draw my attention, and are often a starting-point in my work.

Shape and technique: My work consists of abstract shapes with an interplay of lines. The base of the shape is simple, often a circle, an oval or a triangle. The skin that has been cut away connects the piece to the space around it, and adds an additional dimension.

Carla hosts year-round workshops in small groups in her atelier (4-5 persons).
