Dawaa Huizinga-Molom is a versatile artist. She works from her atelier in Sittard. Dawaa draws, and makes ceramics, as well as bronze sculptures.
Her work is mainly inspired by nature, spirituality, animals and women. She mainly depicts women that appeal to the viewer’s imagination.
She portrays the inner beauty of women and the beautiful curves they were given by nature. Dawaa believes women are mothers to all humans in our modern society. They are primal mothers that stand between society and their children with mixed feelings. In her sculptures, you see women standing, all of them telling a personal story, and in some cases these women seemingly communicate with one another. These characteristics, big and small emotions, humoristic, and serious character traits are expressed very subtly.
Her project “Earth’s Voice” is inspired by climate change, the extinction of beneficial insects and animals, and our treatment of the earth as human beings. By using rips and small insects in her work, she tries to express Earth’s voice. These results came about through experiments. In 1985, Dawaa participated in the International Competition of Artists in Moscow, and she won a prize in a competition for the first time. The 20-year-old artist was hugely motivated by this prize to continue along the path she had chosen.
