Because of my wife, I came into contact with ceramics at the beginning of this century, through Stichting KREATIEF in our town.
Enthusiasm was found quickly with local ceramists, which led me to visit the art academies of Maasmechelen (9 years of ceramic education was concluded with the first prize, as given by the professional jury) and Genk (7 years of sculpting education).
Even during my studies, I started (be it a little far-fetched) building letters and punctuation marks. The marks are cut apart, or made more abstract, in order to put them together again in a different way. The organic shapes that result from this appear tough, robust and, together with transparency, the applications and rough skin (sinter engobe), and the monochrome finish, give the piece a certain “nakedness”. My ceramic work doesn’t tell a story, and has no underlying meaning. Because of my sculpting studies, I made torsos more often, in different sizes and with different applications.
