In a humoristic, absurd way, I try to portray freedom, power, and interconnectedness. We all strive for freedom, yet we are inextricably linked to our biological and social heritage.
This conflict is mainly expressed through our strong need to travel. Modern media have made the outside world smaller, and our imaginary world bigger. We no longer have to leave our house in order to learn about the world, yet we travel more than ever.
The sculptures are built with slabs of clay, and finished with slip and glazes in a way that makes it seem as if the sculptures have already lived a whole life or as if they’ve travelled far.
Besides this work, I also make slip-decorated ceramics, ranging from wall objects to hand-built vases. A modern reference to the traditional ceramics of the Maas and Rijn area.

My sculptures are often quiet, helpless, introverted, bound to their surroundings, and they invite the viewer to contemplate.
